We recognise that well-nourished children focus better and learn more in the classroom, leading to better performance.

As a Pathfinder school, we are committed to ensuring that every child has access to nutritious, high-quality food during the school day. Our approach is designed to reduce food poverty, promote inclusion, and ensure that all pupils have a positive food experience.

School dinner menus

We want every child to enjoy a healthy, nutritious lunch as part of their school day. Aspens, our catering provider, offers a varied menu designed to provide balanced meals and encourage positive eating habits.

The safety and wellbeing of our pupils is our highest priority and we recognise that some children have specific dietary needs due to a food allergy, intolerance or medical dietary requirement. If your child has any allergies or dietary requirements, please complete Aspens allergy form and return it to the school office.

School dinners cost £2.80 per meal.

Packed lunches

If your child prefers, they are welcome to bring a packed lunch from home. Packed lunches should be brought in a clearly labelled lunch box or bag. We encourage lunches to include a variety of healthy foods that provide children with the energy they need for a busy day of learning and play.

Allergy awareness

The health, safety, and wellbeing of our pupils are our top priorities. We are a fully inclusive school and warmly welcome children with a wide range of medical needs, including allergies. Allergies can be triggered by many different foods – most commonly milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, sesame seeds, fish, and gluten – as well as non-food items like insect stings or latex.

Following guidance from the Department for Education, Allergy UK, and Anaphylaxis UK, we do not operate a blanket ban on any single ingredient. Experts advise that total bans are unenforceable, can overlook other critical allergens, and create a false sense of security.

Instead, we practice a rigorous whole-school allergy awareness approach to keep all children safe.

Visit our Allergy Awareness page for more information on our allergy procedures and support arrangements.

Free school meals

Free school meals are available to children whose parents are in receipt of one or more of the following benefits:

  1. income support
  2. income-based job seeker’s allowance
  3. income-related employment and support allowance
  4. child tax credit with an income of less than £16,190 and not in receipt of working tax credit
  5. support under part VI of the immigration and asylum act 1999
  6. guarantee element of state pension credit
  7. universal credit (from September 2026)

Where parents are entitled to working tax credit during a four week “run on” period immediately after their employment has ceased, or after they have started to work less than 16 hours per week, their children are entitled to free school meals.

Children who receive income support or income based jobseeker’s allowance in their own right are also entitled to free school meals.

Should you meet the above criteria, you can apply here.

Applications are usually processed the same day. If your child is entitled to free school meals you will receive a letter confirming the date when the meals will start. The school is also notified that your child is entitled to free school meals. In the meantime, you should continue to pay for free school meals until confirmation comes through. Schools may be able to arrange a reimbursement of any monies paid whilst your entitlement is being confirmed.

If you are not entitled to free school meals you will be notified in writing.
